Goldcar car hire

Hi guys

Just like to pass on my recent experience with goldcar hire out of alicante airport, after paying for the car,and full insurance with do you spain, I was informed that I had to take out their insurance for 189 euros, I showed the girl on their desk,but informed me I hadn't read or understood the paper wk,as we have a place in spain, and visit quite often, I'm aware of their policy,to put doubts about your car hire,I've used goldcrest before, probably 4 or 5 yrs ago,but stopped using them because of their scam,but thought I would give them another chance,unfortunately that will be their last chance, and I didn't take out their insurance, has I was fully covered, they also told me it would cost me 1100 hundred euros for any damage,I took a video of car before I got into it,always do this guys,who ever you use,as I got an email a day after returning to say there's a scuff on the o/s/f wheel, I informed them,it was a plastic trim,and I sent them the video to prove it was there before I had driven it,needless to say,I haven't heard anything back, there are many other good car hire companies, but goldcar isn't one of them.

They even made BBC R4 money/consumer program a while back.

Talk to your credit card company you booked car with, I did this and told goldcar I had put in an official complaint with visa & got a full refund on "fake damage " good luck

They were on Joe Lynette's got your back aswel. Horrible company with a bad reputation. All cars are covered with insurance you don't need any extra

Goldcar have been legendary chancers for a long time now. You booked through a 3rd party in DYKS & their policy covered you & would reimburse you if the hirer levied charges whether real or spurious by the hirer. Your policy is no good to Goldcar though or any other hirer as they are not named on it & cannot directly claim in it. Instead they’ll whip out their own policy then at the desk & if not taking it you have to trust them with a hefty deposit, the €1100 wasn’t that high. They go a lot higher depending on the size of car. The trouble is they quickly tend to fall in love with that deposit becoming awfully attached to it & hate parting with it. You didn’t say how much they want or if you’ve got your deposit back but a perceived scuff on a wheel would be more than enough to set them off. You might not be the first hirer they trotted out that same wheel scuff on either.

Just got to stop using the rip off companies at the airport!! Plenty of others which are hassle free, Wheels in spain, magum, lara cars, coys rent a car, just to name a few

Why would anyone use Goldcar ever, they have the worst reviews of all of the car hire companies in Spain

I do hope your credit card company will help you recover any lost funds.

I am amazed that Goldcar still have customers. Poor reviews and scare stories have been well publicised, and yet there are still queues at the desk every time I pass through Alicante airport. Puzzling.
