Just a gentle word of caution and that is to avoid car rental companies at any airport particularly in Spain, whether you book directly or through a brokerage company (such as DOYouSpain (just for example),
The Rental agents earn a commission on every "Insurance or fuel" package they manage to sell you. (They will try and frighten you)
In addition, if at the end of the rental they inform you of damage that you know you didn't cause and refuse to refund your deposit, the Rental agent can earn on average an additional €50 to €100 per rental on each deposit withheld.
It is not uncommon for a Rental agent to earn more in commission each year than their annual salary.
My advice would be to hire from a local Company not based within the terminal, there are many reputable Companies just off the airport who will meet you off your flight (you´d have seen them with the name cards) and take you to your car which is normally only a few minutes away.
For disclosure purposes I took early retirement from an Engineering background and spent a number of years working as a training Manager in the I.T department of two separate Global car rental companies (both of which have offices in all major Airports including Alicante)
You can of course purchase annual "Collision Damage Waiver" Insurance from any number of suppliers before you travel and its very inexpensive, but the rental companies will tell you they don't recognise it and still charge you a massive deposit and once they have it they won't give it back without a fight.
Cheers
