Alicante  - San Juan Hogueras celebrations 2016

San Juan's bonfires are the biggest holiday celebrations of Alicante. They start on June 20 and last until the 24th June 2016.

Here's a basic translation of the main events:

On June 20, Is the celebrations and 12 hours "plantà", ie, the assembly process of polychrome stone cardboard and wood deep satirical load, ready to be burned takes place four after days (on the feast of St. John the Baptist).

• On 21 and 22 commissions made the offering of flowers to the Virgen del Remedio, patron saint of Alicante, and flowers are placed on a catafalque in the Plaza de Abad Penalva, where the Cathedral of St. Nicholas is located. The beauties and ladies of each district carry bouquets that are filed with the image of the Virgin, installed on the facade of City Hall.

• On June 23 the "International Folklore Parade", a colorful parade with floats, dance groups, bands and dancers from various countries of the world is made.

• On June 24 is the day of the "cream" at 12 pm is released from the top of Mount Benacantil a monumental palm tree, which is the simultaneous download of hundreds of rockets white light. So start is given to the cremà, it ie burning fires elderly and children. At that time, a large fireworks lights the official bonfire of the Town Hall Square. The festivities end with the popular "banya" (bathed), carried out by firefighters to extinguish the fires.
