Morning all  , I'm having a problem with wasps there gathering around my pool steps to drink water .I've now been stung a few times . I dont want to hurt them I know there must be a nest somewhere very close . Has any one had this problem and how did you solve it please .I need to get rid of the little bliters before my human little bliters come to visit there Nannie .

I've had exactly the same problem for a couple of years, they gather around the metal ladder in my pool, and I've researched all sorts of solutions, none of which work! These included plants whose aroma they don't like, a bucket of water nearby to give them an alternative drinking venue. Last year I tried taping a brown paper bag in wasp nest shape to the ladder, this is supposed to persuade them that another colony is already there so they shouldn't trespass on their territory. My wasps had clearly never heard of this!

I'm thinking now of a big aerosol of wasp repellent and giving them a squirt every time they turn up, suitably dressed in protective clothing of course.

If anyone has a workable solution, I'd love to hear it.

Look on this site. (much advice over years).

Think about a fuente (fountain or water feature AWAY from the pool) They love "moving", "splashing" water..

Remember that wasps are the friends of gardeners. They attack and eat a host of other pests and this helps to clear plants of unwanted grubs etc.

An interesting column today in The Guardian on how to deal with various others. Read it online with no firewall

Link?. Thanks. As regards our helpful friends( particularly those with human alergic reactions, a natural fountain (water-feature) is a good alternative in Spain. V

I have a large terracotta pot full of fresh water about 6 foot from my pool, mainly fir the birds, but on Saturday we couldn’t get in the pool for wasps 🤬. My husband was batting them off for me while I had a swim. So fed up and laying on the sun lounger, I had a light bulb moment. As soon as the pool was in the shade and the sun had gone down. I sprayed all the pool tops about 3/4 inches wide with ORO (Consum) I got back into the pool and sprayed inside the under the tops and down to the water level and a really good spray on the chlorine float. That was Saturday, as of today still NO wasps, not one. It says on the tin it lasts a year when sprayed, which it does around the door frames and windows. But for now it seems to be working.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I wasn't really thinking about major garden landscaping to get rid of a flying insect!

I've had a product called NO MORE BUGS recommended to me. It's a chemical compound which you put in the pool and it reduces surface tension, so the wasps land on the water for a drink, but sink and drown. Anyone ever used it? The disadvantages are cost (30 euros a bottle), and a pool floor and/or filter full of dead wasps. I'm also wondering how long it will last and be effective if the pool nozzles come on and force all the water towards the filter end. Will that dilute the effect?

Good thoughts. But washing detergent works much the same way.( surface tension). Regards the wasps "heading" away from the pool ( & towards a water feature), I was thinking of something less than eg: the Trevi Fountain. & maybe less bodies in the pool 💬. Just a thought? V
