Hello Everybody;

I am on my daily mission, working to get a job and hopefully, one day, a permanent living in Alicante area.

I am from Slovakia, but for the last 23 years, I have been living in Canada. I have dual citizenship. At this present time, I have been working on getting my renewed Slovak passport so I can work and live in Spain. The authorities and the steps in my country of origin  - to get the expired passport are very complicated; all legal documents take too long to be legalized before obtaining the passport.

I registered on EU JOBS website and it gave me 3 options to check;

      1. whether I was a Spanish citizen                                                                                                                                                      2. whether I was born in another EU country                                                                                                                                      3. whether I was born in any other non EU country

Like I said, I was born in another EU country, but I don't have its passport, just a document, I have its citizenship. This confuses me a bit, because I don't know whether I am eligible to work in Spain or I'd need a work permit. With needing it, this will take me almost away from making it in Spain, because the country will prefer the interest coming from EU countries rather than from non EU country.

Can anyone help with this?

Thank you

Mia

With Slovakia being in the Shengen area then you benefit from free movement and therefore can live and work in Spain.

I don't know what 'document' from Slovakia you have or what its standing in Spain might but if it's not acceptable for an application for residencia then unfortunately you will have no option but to get that Slovakia passport.

The only way practical way to test it might be to make an application and see what happens, you're going to have to do that after you've been in Spain for 90 days anyway.

Good luck.
