I bought myself a car in February this year which I keep at the airport. The cost is less than the taxi fares we pay each year. It has certainly opened up all areas now.

Guadalest, Altea, Denia and so on. Still walk into Alicante city most nights and walk or taxi back. I have seen the locals use these cards, but never fought one. Seems a good idea, especially in the summer months.

Yes, one of the agents I was speaking with from Villajoyosa mentioned about leaving the car at the airport and that's a good option for a place to leave a car long term and then it's there when you arrive back.  We will definitely be buying a car and will be doing lots of exploring so its great to have that option.

Apart from Jim's Guides on this site, there are 2 further sites that may be worth a look.

Citizens Advice Bureau Spain for general bureaucracy items, etc.

N332 for anything to do with driving in Spain.   This site is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people and has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code.

Also, be aware that many things may change after the UK leaves the EU, and also that many provinces and towns 'tweek' national rules and regulations for their own procedures.

Hi, We have only just joined this forum so I am only just reading the messages.

We are currently buying a property in a residential area in Alicante city. No pool and no lift.

We have stayed in different residential areas over the past year so we can see what the areas are like night and day. The only area that I would stay clear of. Juan xiii however there are some other areas walking distance from there that we would be happy to buy in.

Every time we have been there we have loved the area, so many different things to do and great all year round.

We are buying an apartment close to the hospital area so the tram is brilliant to get to the beach. Also from the airport the C6 bus takes you from the airport right to the city by the beach and its less than 5 euros, I think closer to 3.50 and from memory I think they are every 20 minutes. We have used that every time we have visited.

Do buy one of the cards for the tram, it can be used on the buses too. Also, if you are thinking of using the C6 bus then you can buy a card for that too and the cost of 12 journeys is only 12 euros.

Do get a solicitor!!

Hope this helps. Good luck!!

Donna

Thank you very much for your reply Donna. We’ve since bought an apartment in Santa Pola which we absolutely love, ....... and still close enough to Alicante city for us to come and go easily enough, so the best of both worlds!!  Can’t wait to get back there.
