Can anyone give advice or recommendations for transporting furniture and belongings from the UK to Alicante city?

The firm that moved me two years ago was MAV run by a scouser called John Smith, based in Almoradi. I don't know if he's still operating but I would recommend him without hesitation. He charges based on volume of goods. My stuff was moved from Hereford to Pego in two large white vans, with two months storage in Spain included while I waited to move over and acquire my house. I packed all the small items in boxes at my own cost. There was a fair bit of furniture involved, two large sofas, big table and six chairs, cabinets, beds, wardrobes, etc. Total cost if I remember was under £2000, which was less than half what large removal firms in Hereford were quoting me.

Hi Tim, we used 'European movers' last year and they were excellent (at least 1/3 of the price of other well known companies) They basically list your job on an internet forum and people with vehicles the size you need quote and bid for the job. We had an Eastern European guy turn up with a curtain sided large van, I helped loading and off he went. 28 hours later he landed at our house. Job done. You have to do some prep work with good packing and box everything you can in order for you to gauge the space required. We loaded our lounge slowly in one space and measured the area covered by the furniture and boxes. It is a bit of work as I dismantled a few things to maximise the space but a huge saving. I think from memory we paid about 1200 fully insured and were quoted up to 5000 by others.

Thanks for your prompt reply, Herefordjack.  Based on what you paid two years ago, I now know that employing a company such as MAV to move our belongings to Spain is a viable and affordable option for us.  

Our planned move to Spain is, for the moment, delayed because of the current travel restrictions (very, very, very frustrating!)

Thanks for your prompt reply, Ashes 40.  You seem to have found a good deal through European Movers.  Herfordjack's and your replies have confirmed my guess that employing a driver with van(s) is the most cost effective way to get our furniture from UK to Spain.

I did think, reading your reply, that you were perhaps lucky in having the Eastern European guy to do your removal.  (I can imagine that some drivers are more responsible/reliable than others!)

Its part of the quote that they assist/organise with loading and unloading, as having their vehicle loaded correctly weight/distribution etc was important to them. Like everything there's always a trade off for cost/service and I hadn't expected  much given the price however found the booking/office and transfer/contact very good. The drivers I think are all self employed and time is money therefore a fast efficient service.

Hi Tim, we have booked a removal from our uk home to Alicante for August. We found a website called Shiply, which again calculates your need and drivers bid for it. We found the drivers responded to any questions instantly.
