Hi we have brought an apartment in Almoradi, and was wondering if anyone has any tips on how's best to manage them, as we are back in London most of the time. We have set up a bank account in Spain already, and Abaco are dealing with things for now. But for future reference any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys x nadine

Hi

All your utility bills should have been set up to be paid from your Spanish bank account by direct debit by your solicitor, as should your Suma Bill (equivalent of UK council tax). The Annual Tax Return Modelo 210,( it’s a tax that non residents pay annually in arrears due by 31st December) unfortunately cannot be set up as a direct debit, but once again your solicitor should have explained this to you. I have been doing my own return for quite sometime and it’s fairly straight forward. I did in the early days, pay to have it done but found that the cost of someone doing it for us was as much as or can be more than the actual taxes! I have online banking so I can keep an eye on things and I have electronic access to electricity & water bills so no paper bills go to my post box. I use TransferWise to send money from UK to Spain they are very good and far cheaper than using the high street banks plus you get a better exchange rate. I don’t use a Key Holding Company while I’m back in the UK I have a friend who holds my keys for emergencies. I would mention that if you do decide to use a Key Holding Company choose very wisely. Enjoy your time in Spain ☀️☀️☀️
