direct debits

Hi all

we are due to complete on our apartment in Almoradi within a couple of weeks with everything in place including our bank account. my question is: would it be advisable to set up a starling euro bank account now and have all of our direct debits set up with this account from the start or, should i set up the direct debits from my Spanish account then change after the first payments. i believe Spanish bank charges are high and frequent and maybe this would be a way to avoid charges and difficulties further down the line.

any advice would be appreciated

Hi Tiger,

We’ve opened an account with Caixa bank. The maintenance fee is €23 every 2 months and we had to pay a €38 non resident tax, I believe this is due every 2 years but not 100% sure. I’ve setup our direct debits from this account to avoid any potential issues with using an Irish bank account, but may also look to move the payment when I’m more familiar with the process.

I would also recommend Wise money transfer company. I have been using Wise for over 8 years and never had any problems. You can set up your direct debits when you set up an account.
