Applied for my SIP card and was asked for a Translation of the S1

anyone else had this problem ? or is it new since Brexit seems odd as the S1 is a standard form containing name address  and date of birth

It's over 4 years since I lodged mine and I wasn't asked for a translation at Denia INSS.

It would be very disappointing if the INSS are now about to ask for translations, but Brexit has definitely altered the "weather" in the way that Spanish institutions are now looking at these things.

I hope it was a one off situation but it will be interesting to see if this comes up again.

Gazz, now I think about it, my paperwork was submitted to the INSS office here by my Gestor so it is actually possible she translated the S1 before she took it in.

Let's see who else comments.

I've just done a friend's application online to the social security for her health authorisation document. As part of the process, there's a drop down menu asking you to select your province (Alicante for us). The S1 copy we provided was the original one in English. We had no problems, she got the authorisation three days later by email, printed it off, took it straight to the local Centro de Salud and was issued with her SIP card.

We are EU citizens, and 2 years ago we were obliged to have our French S1 forms translated into Spanish for our SIP card.

Sorry to jump in on this post..............can I ask do you have to actually be in receipt of your state pension or can you apply for both pension and S1 couple of months prior to 66th birthday ?

Our PH insurance is due 2 weeks after his 66th so looking to get S1 asap so don't end up either paying for another year of PH or having to look into whether he could apply for convenio and then cancel when get S1.... (assuming there is no reason now why we cannot get S1 !!  )

thanks for any help .......

Sorry that I'm jumping in too!! A couple of points that may/may not be helpful.

They won't issue an S1 before retirement date.

On PHI, most companies operate January to December and require 3 months notice of cancellation (in writing). I got slightly caught out on this and ended up having my PHI running in tandem with my SIP for several months before I could finally cancel it.
