Euro Weekly News tells me that SIXTY traffic cameras, with number plate recognition have been put up around town, "for safety".

Nothing of course to do with making money from fines, like traffic cameras elsewhere. Fines will range from €100 to €600 and the loss of up to six points of the driver’s license, depending on how fast they were going.

So is this 30 kph or even 20 kph?

Where are the speed limit signs (like Benidorm)?

The Almoradi forum.

I have not seen any radar warning signs, no speed limit signs, or the cameras themselves, or anything else to indicate they even exist.

Cameras are supposed to be only put in accident areas (traffic black spots) but having lived in the area for 4 months, I have yet to see one.

I drive an old car, year 2000, which no one would call fast but would have to keep it in second gear instead of automatic to keep below 20 kph.

I suppose they could be for the new ULEZ rules coming in next year for towns over 50,000 and 20,000 inhabitants. We have them in our area in the UK, even though the rules haven't yet been decided.

Tbh I wouldn't worry. Kimmy put up a post about it when the new laws came into effect and it was full of useful information but unfortunately it's not served me any purpose because I haven't noticed any difference, everyone (myself included) still speed and I haven't received one fine yet. And in the slow zones now it's all speed bumps, granted you can just drive around most of them or straight over them without the need to slow down but you get the odd or two that are massive which are effective. You will soon learn where they are. I don't believe it's just for money I do genuinely believe it's in the interest of safety because the fines are quite low by comparison to other places

I have lived here for 17 years and see speed limit signs all over the place!   If you don't do over the limits then you won't have any problems.   If you look on the N332 Facebook page, or their website, you will see such information (there is also an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code on their website).

By the way, I drive an automatic car and have no problems with driving at 30 kph which is the speed limit in many towns.

There are speed limit signs ON THE MOTORWAY. I looked at the Facebook page. Ads and eco stuff. I looked at the Highway Code, which looks like it was written by a lawyer and is full of non-information, badly written.

I have recently spent a year in Benidorm where they really, really hate cars and there are signs (and road ramps) everywhere, but not so here.

If you can easily drive under 30 kph, maybe your car needs an ITV?

I went out shopping yesterday and reached the AP7 to the north and Mercadona to the west, via the central area.

I looked for cameras everywhere, including building tops and saw none.

Red light cameras save lives in areas where people can reach fast speeds. But they do not work for cyclists like the nut I almost ran over last week as I went through a green light and he went through a red light.

But in Almoradi with narrow roads and cars parked everywhere, someone is more likely to be killed by stepping out from between parked cars than someone driving too fast.

Also, speed cameras do not detect drunk or drug drivers (it is said as many as 1 in 5 do that on weekends in Spain), and being able to rely on cameras means less police about checking on such drivers.
