Not sure about this since after Brexit things have gotten a lot more complicated. It appears you have to go to a DGT office, make an appointment and fill in forms. The thing is that where ever you go, you get a different answer and information. Very confusing!

Exactly. You need to have Spanish residency and you must take:
- Original driving license
- Copy of TIE
- If no TIE, then photocopy of the passport, residency card and updated empadronamiento (3 months)
- Photo passport size
- Orignal medical report from centro médico conductores
- DVLA code and driving summary in PDF from here https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence

My Dutch friend who has recently acquired residency here, is going through the process of changing her licence to Spanish. She has had to go through the medical tests at the driving centre, which she found most bizarre, and has been told she now has to go to Tráfico to actually get it changed.
Hi, we get keys next week for our property in Spain. We have NIE and want to buy a used car to keep in spain. However, will not be our primary or tax residence. Can we still drive Spanish reg car with UK DRIVING Licence? Can we park the car at the airport, with any special arrangements if it is Spanish reg, even if we are not?
Where is the best place to buy a used car? Any help appreciated. We will be in Alltea area.Thank you

Yes, you can drive a Spanish registered car with a UK licence and you can own one as well. You are restricted to 6 months in one year which ties in with the 90 in 180 rule.
There are quite a few companies that provide parking near the airport and will shuttle you between the two. I think they charge 2 to 3 hundred euro a year and some will get the care ITV (same as MoT) in that price if you are not here.
Don't know Altea area for used cars, sorry.

I had the gestoría do mine in Benidorm. But I know since Brexit it's no longer as straight forward. There is an office in Benidorm who maybe able to help you. If it's not possible I would try changing it back to Dutch or German and then going to Spanish

I just did all of that. I bought my car 2nd one from Euro cars La Nucia. Xavier specialises in 2 to 5 year old Automatic cars for Ex Pats. He has been brilliant with me and bought back my first one when I wanted to upgrade. At the airport I use ALC Alicante. About 550 euro pa for under cover and up to 10 meet and greets per year. I used another firm before and they lied and said it was under cover until it got smashed to bit by a massive hailstorm. I have to say ALC have been brilliant and I use it at least 10 times a year as my kids use it too. Buying a car has been great for us as the rental thing was driving us crazy even though overall its cheaper. I just want everything as easy as possible and the meet and greet means we are on the road 15 mins maximum after landing. So far they have always been there as we walk out. Good luck. Things in UK have not gone quite as we hoped 'work/business) so struggling for time in Spain, even to get keys!
So having this info means we can get something sorted before we go (just 4 days) and hopefully get something sorted as family due out with us at Christmas. Would be great to get Car etc done. Can't cope with any of the stress now around Car Hire...on top of other stuff, just need it to be easy.

Delighted to hear. We bought in Altea (Mascarat) 3 years ago and we absolutely love it. Owning the car has just made everything so much easier and its comforting that my sons and daughter dont have the stress of the rental car experience.
