Dear Jeff,
Thank you so much for this detailed description of life in Altea.

I am still hesitating about moving there ,but your mail has really helped me with my decision.I feared that Altea would be dead in winter but you saycthis is not the case. That's encouraging,as I will be alone.I am very sociable, but it's a little scary making a major move like this.
I think it may have to be a permanent move for me,or a place where I will live for six months a year.I really haven't made my mind up just yet.
I think the best plan would be to visit Altea soon, flights are direct from Geneva(where I live now) to Alicante.
I know that I don't want to live in Alicante city,it's not for me.Although the beach is lovely there, also playa de St.Juan.
I believe the beach is not the best in Alttea,it has pebbles it seems, but I suppose there are nicer ones in Javea, not too far away.
It's great that you have settled in so well, and feel integrated despite not having fluent Spanish.I speak French very well,so Spanish should not be a big problem.I love languages and learn fairly quickly, have taken about twenty lessons or more already.I love the Spanish language,so this helps enormously.
Well,I will close now, and ask if you would kindly recommend any estate agents who do long term rentals in the area of Altea.
Thank you again.
Best tegards,
Ursula
Hi Ursula,
I am pleased that I have been able to help with the info about Altea. My Spanish is getting better and I shall be enrolling at the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas de Benidorm in September as I have now reach A2 level Spanish. My wife is far better than me as she had the benefit of a European education in Brussels and her level of Spanish is now C1.
With regards to estate agents for a rental property I find the best site is https://www.idealista.com/en/alquiler-viviendas/altea-alicante/ as you can use the interactive map to sometimes establish the location of the property and they use all the agents in the area.
As for beaches I sometimes walk along the seafront down to Albir where the beach fewer stones and more sand, although a short tram ride down to Villajoyosa will reward you with one of the very best sandy beaches.
Good luck with your new home seach.
Best regards
Jeff
