Thanks Jan for saying that my story might be helpful to others contemplating giving up their insurance policy, particularly with regard to Sabadell. That was the ONLY reason that I posted it. There was no intention to simply moan about being inconvenienced, or complain about being in ...

...Spain in general. It was hopefully meant as a warning for those, like me, who assumed that cancelling a policy was as simple as contacting the company, giving any notice required, and then walking away. Clearly things are different in Spain.
As regards being settled in La Siesta, I never really was. It was more my partner's dream to own a property in Spain than mine. At first I thought it was great but then we know what happened two years ago, followed by the BREXIT restrictions. All of this just made it pointless, At one point I was there for five months by myself. No good, so selling is the only serious option. I am pleased to say that it only took six months to get there and, hopefully, completion is in a couple of weeks.
Thanks for your good wishes.

Hello Michael La Siesta.
Yes I understand why you posted on this subject. I'm sure your post will serve as a reminder and a friendly warning to others who may be in a similar position.
You were open and honest when reporting your experiences with Sabadell, which in this current world of 'cancel culture' was refreshing for me to read. Sad that your dream in La Siesta didn't work out the way you'd hoped.
Your situation brought back so many memories for me. A similar thing happened to me back in 1999, ( I bought a big property in Calle Aviles, San Luis ) , but as time went by my partner seemed to lose interest, and so it ended up that I spent all of my work holidays there mainly on my own in an effort to keep the place going & up to standard.
Eventually, I sold ( luckily at a good price ) but to give up my beloved villa was a sad day for me, because this area had given me something the UK could not provide - a feeling of freshness to life & excitement within.
And so I wanted that feeling back again, and so was due to purchase a different property in neighboring La Siesta in 2020. However sudden Illness and an operation prevented completion at that time - then lockdown took over.
In order for the 'dream' to be fulfilled BOTH partners must be totally committed to the cause.
Yes of course BREXIT has far-reaching consequences, especially for non-resident UK property owners who bought before the UK Referendum.
Before I sign off, just a friendly warning to anyone who may be thinking of Turkey as an alternative country in which to invest. The current exchange rate today looks very appealing to UK buyers. But be very careful ! Turkey's laws are very different, with very few safeguards or rights for non-Turks !
In 2006 I looked at the idea of buying in Altinkum ( Didim ). However, buyers beware, there are many untrustworthy sharks out there ( including some Turkish Lawyers ) !
Are you selling via JMG ? If so send my love to Lilian.
I wish you all the best for the future Michael.
Stay healthy and stay safe.
But I will miss those open & honest posts !
Best wishes,
Jan.
