  • Has anyone had recent experience of travelling into Spain from UK please.  Our daughter and family are looking to move to Spain permanently in May, travelling by ferry to Santander, then on to Javea.
  •   I've read conflicting views on this, some people being sent back to UK. Has anyone been  able to travel into Spain without problems. Many thanks.

Hi Tony

Are your daughter and family residents of Spain? If not, I think, at this time, it highly unlikely the would be allowed to enter Spain

If they wish to become residents and live permanently in Spain, this process now needs to be initiated in the U.K., prior to travelling.

If you could perhaps state their personal circumstances, further advice from members may offer further assistance 🤪🥂

Thanks for response Our daughter did have residencia but left Spain to return to UK 6 yearsago. They will have agreement for villa rental and any other papers which could be of help.  They also have the Libro de Familia as their daughter was born there. I have read today that Spain is possibly looking to open borders towards the end of June so maybe things could be a bit more relaxed by the end of May. Hoping so.

Hi Tony

Not quite straightforward then 😄. I believe your daughters residency may well have lapsed, depending on a number of factors. If it has, then she will likely be refused entry

What her daughters status is, as she was born in Spain, I couldn’t say. Hopefully other members will be able to offer further advice

Maybe when she gets back to Spain, as travel restrictions allow, it would be wise to seek legal advice, given that it doesn’t appear clear cut. 🤪🥂

Hi Tony,

As Ange has said, current restrictions allow only Spanish citizens and Spanish residents to enter the country, with an exception for force majeure.  This situation may change, once Spain lifts its State of Alarm on 9th May, although entry may then be subject to providing proof of vaccination against Covid-19.  It's being reported in the UK press today that the Department for Transport has advised the travel industry that they want an official certification scheme in place by 17th May, but nothing is confirmed yet.

As your daughter left Spain 6 years ago, her residency will be void and she will need to start the application for a residency visa in the UK, before moving to Spain.  You don't say whether she will is hoping to work in Spain, but the Spanish government's website gives details of all the visas available for moving to Spain:

http://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados/LONDRES/en/Consulado/Pages/Visas.aspx

Kind regards,

Kim

Yes I have. But by air had a letter drafted by my lawyer and signed by the notery. No problem.

Note I had found a, property and was flying in to sign / pay for property. I'm not going back... On with TIE at mo as parents already live here.

You can apply for TIE if already have family here.

Hope this helps. Good luck x
