I have just taken metal detecting up and would like to know if any groups meet for digs and where please.i'll be in Benidorm for 2 weeks, then travelling around Spain for another 2 weeks and probably move to another country.thank you.
In real terms, detecting on paper in the Valencia region is restrictive, however in the Benidorm region there are many people detecting and the local police just can’t be bothered with it ! Seeing detectorists as unpaid rubbish collectors....I’ve detected in Bendidorm since 2003 and I’ve never once been challenged, even walking past local guardia with my detector ! Oh, except one early morning when I got stopped by the guardia as the beach cleaner tractor was working on the beach, 15 minutes later they said ok you can go the beach !
Now Andalusia is a different story and I would not advise detecting downwards from Cartagena...
For a Valencia beach detecting licence....apply here...however you must have a Spanish home address.

I thought you need a licence for any beach in Spain unlike the UK and I have looked at other countries and it's a real minefield and some it's strictly NO.thanks for that and you reckon I don't need a licence for Benidorm and what about clubs?do you know of any?thanks again.
I'll be travelling in my campervan and I won't have a residential address.but I'll ask.they can only say yes or no.😁
Technically you do need a licence but many people do detect in Benidorm while on holiday with no trouble, to be honest the local police can’t even be bothered with the Pea Men robbing tourists along the sea front let alone someone picking up pull tabs etc. ! Remember, the tractor cleans the beach sand every morning and picks a lot of the losses up so I never do the dry sand, much prefer searching out in the water....
There is a club down near the Mar Menor called Adapt, however the club is full and you need residencia to join.
Good luck...

I have put details on previous posts , so you just have to look them up , After the recent cases of illegal detecting on and offshore the local plod and the Guardia are taking a much keener interest on detectorists on the beach . Just spent 5 days in Benidorm and plod is very active with the pea men ,constantly patrolling the prom so they cant set up and actively chasing them , plod is getting cuter using plain vans and civvies to also cruise the front , to surprise them !!!!!!!!
3 detectorists were on Levante beach yesterday having a breather and I asked them did they have a license , a look of bewilderment came over them when after answering no I said that they were liable to lose there equipment and face a hefty fine because they are on a beach that has an permant ban on detecting [ this they would have known as the list of prohibited beaches comes with your license …!!
I don't intend to get caught out without a licence and if I can't get one then I won't be detecting.i know certain regions of Spain don't allow it as is the same with other countries in Europe.the only other way is if I manage to get on a dig with a club.thanks for your advice.
