I took my daughter to Rojales town hall this morning to get her registered for her Covid jab. She is resident here but works for a British company. She took her passport, Padron, TIE plus her private health insurance documents with her but was told she need to get a S1 from the NHS in the U.K. she has tried calling the telephone number on the Gov. U.K. web site but when she presses the relevant extension number it’s just a dead line. Has anyone else had this problem and do you know how to solve it ?

I have found that if you ring them and wait for the auto messages to end you will be transferred to a real person, so far this option has always worked.

My wife has now been waiting since the end of January for her S1 to arrive, we have contacted them since and still there is no sign of it.

Good luck

We also experienced issues registering at our local health centre.

We used the link shown to register for a temporary SIP number. Once you register you will receive a txt message detailing the sip number and confirming the health centre appropriate for the post code you enter.

There has been some debate on using this method as it appears to have been designed to provide a mechanism for people to register if they have covid symptoms but it should provide a way out of the loop your daughter appears to be stuck in. Assume she is way below UK state pension age given what you have said about her so she wouldn't perhaps qualify for an S1?

I think the S1 form for healthcare is only available to uk citizens who are living in Spain and of retirement age and receiving their state pension or exportable benefits.

Hi,

At 42 your daughter will not get an S1, as previously posted this is only available to people in receipt of an old age pension from the UK and is used to transfer healthcare to the Spanish system. This is why people under retirement age have to purchase private health care as the S1 is not available due to age.

You say you went to the town hall ? Is this your local health centre ? If it isn't take the documents you have already used to your local health centre in order to register for a temporary SIP card. I have done this and am aware of many others who have also been successful and it works as my wife got her first vaccination 2 weeks ago.

Good luck.

Yes better to go to local health centre with the documents you have. My friends here in Alicante did the same with no problems. Good luck!
