Morning, we have sold our property in the UK, and purchase a Villa in Benimar.  We had life cover with our mortgage which has now ended as we have no mortgage. We are looking for life cover . ( for over 60) We are moving to Spain in June. Can anyone recommend a company for us. Thank you

Hi Joy and Steve,

Broadly speaking.

If you cancelled your life assurance within the last 30 days, you should be able to resurrect this policy. Just notify the life company and reinstate your direct debit payments. Most life offices allow 30 days grace from cancelling your plan.

Although you had "mortgage" life assurance, the plan can be utilised as a separate entity, ( it reverts to a normal life policy).

Although you are moving to Spain, the original policy was offered to you on your circumstances when the plan commenced, as a result there Is NO requirement to notify a change in circumstance. Unlike car insurance or buildings/contents insurance.

If you require a new plan, it could prove to be more expensive due to your age and/or any health problems to which either of you may have sucummbed in the intervening period between the inception of your original policy and a new one.

Hope there is not too much insurance speak.

PS. I was a mortgage/ life assurance consultant in UK from 1987 till 2015.

Hope this helps.
