We are moving to Busot this month and wondered if anyone could recommend a good insurance broker that I can contact whilst still in the UK.  Thank you.

You could email this company for a quote. They speak English:

http://www.granalacantinsurances.com

Also if it's a holiday home you could try

www.intasure.com

They are based in the UK but only insure holiday homes abroad.

Be careful of anyone private messaging you and not putting details on the forum. Always do your own research to check all companies online first before using any that are recommended.

Hope this helps.

Iberian Insurance Services in Villamartin are very helpful, English speaking.

Insurance is via Liberty Seguros, they don't abide by the one month rule.

We made the mistake of getting our insurance through our Bank when we were completing the purchase of our apartment, we later found they were considerably more expensive than other companies with the same level of cover.

On renewal we went with Rightmove Insurance whose details I have added below. We used the Branch in La Zenia and the insurance is through Liberty Seguros, an excellent company to deal with and with English speaking staff.

I did the same as john, however, as part of a purchase deal we took insurance through the bank we got something in the conveyance half price. That was ok even though we knew the bank was dearer. However, it was due for renewal last month and a local independent (rightmove insurance) quoted a better policy and almost 100€ cheaper....too late, we advised the bank 26 days before the policy was due to end and they refused to accept the cancellation as we had to give one full months notice!! We are stuck with them for another year now.

We had the same experience with the Bank but since they hadn't told us about their renewal policy we simply blocked the Direct Debit and went with the new company.

I'd just like to point out that the law in Spain requires you to give two months notice in writing if you don't intend to renew an insurance policy when it falls due.

The insurer isn't obliged to tell you - you're supposed to know.

Many companies don't insist on two months, but some do, and it isn't worth taking chances.

That may be what is required by the letter of the law but in practice it is not what is applied by the Bank I dealt with. A phone conversation and a block on the Direct Debit was all that was required.

They told me one month not two! And we'll done john for having the balls...they were quite forcefull with me saying that they would pursue through the courts..and I told them I may have a buyer...they replied they needed to see legal contract of sale.
