We are non residents and have had a bank account with CaixaBank for 3 years. We have just received notification from them that their quarterly fees will be increased from 1st April 2021 to €35 per quarter. That’s a 40% increase! So, search has started to relocate to another bank - can anyone recommend an alternative please?

All the Spanish banks are charging, or have plans to, increased account maintenance fees so moving banks won't help. I am a resident here and my bank, Sabadell, has introduced a charge. There are a lot of posters who have changed to an online bank such as the Transferwise Borderless account which does not attract any charges.

Hi Frank
We changed banks in April 2019 from Sabadell to Cajamar online account and no fees since then. I have written many replies regarding them, you have to go into branch to start the application as a non resident but its been so worthwhile. Highly recommended.

I'm with Santander and have been for several years , no problems whatsoever , also been with BBVA ,caixa, Bankia
and bankinter. Having been a resident in Spain for more than 26 years , I find it better to change banks EVERY 5-7 years depending on the service you get .

Hi Yes open an account with Transferwise no charges for DDs Then go to the Bank and close your account
