Totally new at this, coming out to Cabo area in August and want to hire a car for week, is it best to hire at airport of are their local car hire business that someone would recommend.     Have read over other messages and the who excess and insurance seems a nightmare??  Is it worth buying an annual car hire excess in the UK, before we travel - any suggestion on this?

Not keen to hire at airport as flight comes in late at night and never driven on a Spanish road before

Any help or advise would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Doreen

Probably best to hire from the airport, it will save you about €70+ each way for a taxi. Check out Lara Cars, they have no excess on their cars. You only pay the hire fee plus a tank of fuel. Driving in Spain is easy, you only have one turn off from the airport, then it's straight out the N332 to Cabo Roig.

PS. Lara cars meet you at arrivals, and the car is holding outside.

Thank you Kenneth, will check out their website, do you think I need to purchase an annual excess insurance policy, we have just purchased an apartment in Lomas to do plan on coming out as often as possible but may not hire car at every visit.

It's been a while since we have used them, so check their Web site. It shouldn't be necessary as it has always been included in their price.

Try the website Do You Spain.  You need the fuel option of full/full so you don't get stung for fuel.  In other words they give you the car with a full tank and you take it back with a full tank. Don't take out the insurance when you book the car, do it when you pick the keys up as its cheaper that way.

You don't opt for any waivers or insurance when you book the car as these are a con and you still have to take out insurance with them when you get to the airport so you end up paying for insurance twice.

All you do is book and pay for the car on-line and any extras like car seats etc and then when you pick the car up at the airport you take the insurance.  Just make sure it's the full insurance that covers everything like bumps etc in case someone hits you.

Doreen, if you havent paid for insurance when you booked the car hire you dont have to take out the Spanish insurance. just refuse to have it. Dont sign for it if its on the car hire agreement. take out excess insurance in the uk. There are several available on line. Costs about £40 per annum. Far cheaper than the Spanish insurance. Yes you may find the spanish car hire find scratches you never noticed when you return it.  so make sure you photo or video every part of the car when you pick it up. If you have the uk excess then it should cover you for any spanish problems on damage or charges against your card. get a photograph of any damage and make sure your car is inspected by them when you drop it off. get a signed off paper from them. Car hire in Spain is a nightmare. Con merchants everywhere but there are some respectable ones but hard to find.Enjoy Cabo Roig
