Not unless they are heated or he has polar bear blood.

Not unless you're good at CPR!

My rule of thumb is end of may to October. Extreme bravery is required outside these times

Three things very interesting about venturing into the pool.

water temp, air temp & body temp. rule of thumb (for comfort)

water temp 20 degrees (it will feel Brrrrr cold). I have sometimes ventured in at 20 & the water feels warm (after a while!) IF the air temp has dropped.

I have tried a new years day swim for a few years (one length of the pool) NO MORE!

Agree with all of the above (particularly Jim´s CPR advice).

We had holidaymakers next door, (Brits) last week, who were jumping in the outdoor pool.  I thought they were mad but they were youngsters.  Years ago, my brother and I swam in the sea at St Andrews in January.  My sister-in-law stayed on the beach, in a coat, just shaking her head at us.  I was in my teens then but would definitely not consider being so daft now!

Why not?  Young at heart, young at CPR. I'll jump in in April, if you do! Etc. V.

Hi Linda we have been out March and April (depending when Easter falls) with our grandchildren and there is no way we could keep them out of either the pool or the sea although last Easter even they gave up on the pool after a short while. Kids don’t feel the cold like we do so I say let you grandson go in the pool and let him have fun - he will soon want to come out for a nice hot shower when he has had enough; that’s far easier than trying to tell him that he can’t go in.

We are over Easter with our three grandchildren again this Easter (14, 12, 8) so I am hoping for nice weather too.
