Hi Anna,

You have my deepest sympathy, I am loosing count of how many times carriers say they cannot find my house. I have supplied maps, directions and GPS all to no avail. To them my address does not exist.

This is compounded by google maps saying the road outside the house is the Plaza. The Plaza is actually about 75m away and they have to drive past my house to get there.  So what does that say?  As this is a polite forum I will not say what I really think of them.

I really don't know what to do to solve the problem.  Short of resorting to firearms, sensible suggestions are welcome.

I know it's a long shot, but if we all included our what3words location as part of our address, it might encourage some couriers to start using the system. It's a clever system, with three words used to describe every 3 metre square on the world.

If you're not familiar with it, look at the website:

https://what3words.com/news/general/blackbay/

Then find your three words on the map:

https://what3words.com/

And if you like the idea, install the app:

https://what3words.com/products/what3words-app/

Jim's tip - because there are a separate three words for each three metres, that means that there are several that can be used to pinpoint the front of your property, so have a play and select the three words that are easiest to remember.

Much, much, easier than making a note of GPS co-ordinates.

I had a similar issue with items I ordered from the Range in the UK, the address field I had to use was fine while typing, but when i went to pay i noticed that the address was shown in all the wrong fields, i even phoned the Range and the CS agent assured me they had made sure the address was in the correct fields.

When I was tracking the parcel I noticed on the day it was due to be delivered DHL were indicating the address was wrong, I got in touch with them, as like yourself they were in the process of returning item to the UK, i eventually got the parcel the next day, after ensuring they had the correct address, when it arrived the box looked like it had been used as a football.

I'm starting to think it's too fraught ordering online wondering if the item will arrive and in what state.

I'm not sure there is a solution, it seems to be a combination of online companies address fields, which despite them proclaiming they ship to the EU and beyond their IT systems don't seem up to the job, and the way Spainsh addresses are laid out.

I have mentioned this before on our road there are 2 number 20's one in Fase 2 and ours in Fase 9.

So depending which way the courier approaches the Urbanisation they will be in fase2 first if they drive down the hill and fase9 if they drive up the hill, just having one post code for a whole area seems ludicrous.

To quote a well known phrase or saying:-  "But this is Spain".

There is also the situation that some drivers advise their office that they could not deliver due to no-one being home when, in fact, the person is at home.   I have had this happen to me several times but it has usually been via a driver from SEUR.

Hello,

I have suffered this many, many times even when the gate is wide open and we have a scheduled a delivery time. I would not pay them in washers.

Indeed, I've heard this oft used excuse, sorry phrase, the one I prefer is the Spanish tend to indolence with that mindset no wonder Spain is in the state it is.

Jim - the what3word application is already used by some American shippers.

This software merely translates from Google Maps and as I found out recently when I was in contact with their very own Mohan Ganesalingam! it enhances the co-ordinated data supplied under licence from Google.

The algorithm used is so clever that Google maps doesn't actually show my location but when compiled with the aforementioned, my address is highlighted.

Many thanks for everyone's help and concerns, much appreciated.

In going forwards, please do not judge the failings in my case as something that reflects the "norm" - it may have just been a blip.

I have had a look at the 'what3words' links.

I can work out how the system works but I don't think we have got a snowball's chance in hades of getting any Spanish carrier to go along with it.

My own trials and tribulations have shown that whatever you send them such as a marked up map, written directions and GPS co-ordinates they all seem to be a step too far.

The 3words jobbie will be like rocket science to them.  No chance.

I would like to be proved wrong if someone can get this to work.
