I don't think anyone could any answer that because Spain has so much to offer and no-one knows what you would like because you haven't said what your looking for. Different people like different things. So I would recommend (if possible) spending time travelling different areas and see which place made you feel like home.

Cabo roig Punta Prima La Zenia Playa Flamenca. Torrevieja area, La Siesta El Chaparral Altos de Limonar in fact a lot of Irish in most areas. But you never mentioned what size of property. What type of property Apartment Terrace house Bungalow. What facilities you require. Do you understand the Purchasing process and extra expenses on top of purchase price allow 15% on top of purchase price. Allow about 1600 a year expenses for privileged of ownership. That is Community fees Suma non Resident tax Standing charge on Electricity and Water.
But it is advisable to Rent before you buy in Spain.

If you can't do a person a good turn. Do not do them a bad one.

So much depends on your friends needs, preferences and budget. Everywhere is right for someone and nowhere is perfect for all.
That said, if they are looking to be in an area with an Irish expat community then Orihuela Costa has. But they need to visit, spend time looking around and decide their priorities for the property and immediate area, and their budget, before they start looking at properties.

You make me laugh ! Where did you get this from?
I'm sorry to answer so late, but today I had a complicated day at Brussels airport. Many planes with problems.
But to return to the discussion in question, I know that I deviated a little from the topic and from the basic question, but it is better to say things by name from the beginning so that people know what they can face in the future. That with... all countries have squatters is a big lie! Very big !
No, the countries I mentioned have in their constitutions respect for property rights, which Spain does not have.
And I don't ask you to believe me, but you can convince yourself by asking a Portuguese...a Greek or an Italian...
I have colleagues with whom I work from these countries and I know very well what I am writing here.
Try not to misinform.I wish you all to have no experiences with squatters.

First of all I didn't say all countries to I said the countries you mentioned. Italy has many squatters, before you try and argue my wife is Italian, I lived there and I can legally apply for an Italian passport through blood family. One of my closest friends is Greek and she had a squatter in her house many years ago. So out of the 3 countries you mentioned that's two down. Portugal I believe there will be but can't back that up

I don't think we are talking about the same thing. Let's put the problem differently, namely, the rights of those who break into a house.
In Italy, Greece, Portugal and all over Europe, with a simple call to the police and in the presence of its owner, they are arrested and treated as thieves.
In Spain they are allowed to live in the house and the owner is obliged to pay for their comfort.
Do you understand the difference now?
