We are currently looking into moving to Spain. My wife has some reservations having talked to friends here about the Cabo Roig salud. First she has been advised that it usually takes two weeks now to get an appointment for the salud. Obviously if you were suffering from something like a UTI,or other urgent matter, this would be pretty inconvenient. I wondered if people using the salud recently have also experienced two week delays in arranging urgent appointments?

Secondly a friend had an operation in Torrevieja hospital (I believe it was a hip replacement) and was discharged the following day. She attended the salud to arrange a change of dressing, but was told the salud was too busy to do it. I was also wondering what peoples experience was with this salud in similar circumstances or in general aftercare? I attended there a few years ago and only had positive experiences with getting dressings changed following a cycle accident.TIA.

If it was seriously urgent, would you not go to Urgencias at your nearest hospital, or a Centro in the area offering such facilities? Farmacias here are also a great source of help, and can sell over the counter remedies for cystitis and various other conditions. I presume the treatments would be similar to those in France where I once developed the most dreadful cystitis, went to the Farmacia in tears, where they sent me away with a box of liquid doses, worked like magic! At the least, this gives you a breathing space!

Cannot comment re the post op treatment received by your friend, but the treatment received by my mother in our local hospital, when she broke her hip, was first class. Spanish health care is usually very good. The other interesting point, although I cannot comment specifically, is that I understand many modern dressings do not  need to be changed daily.

Hello

Just for your info. & although not relating to Cabo Roig Salud, I have been to La Mata Salud today. Needeing a pre op blood test soon, there were no appts available until well into May ( they do 20-30 every morning)

This may not happen everywhere but in many years of living here Ive always had a blood test within a couple of weeks. Now the  test is  just one day before I see the anaesthetic Dr at the hospitsl.... Medical  Appts are not easy to obtain anywhere in this area

Cheers

At the Centro de Salud at Cabo Roig if you have an urgent issue you can go to reception, tell them it's urgent, and they'll tell you you can wait until a doctor is available.   It might be a longish wait, buy you'll get seen at some stage.  Also, Cabo Roig is one of the few centres with a 24-hour emergency cover.  I was there once late at night, and was seen pretty quickly.

Yes, it's true that if you need a non-urgent appointment it can be up to a 2-week wait, but as previously mentioned, if it's an emergency you can be seen on the same day.

Hi

I have about 4 years experience of Cabo Roig Salud.

At first it seemed pretty good, but then COVID arrived, and roughly coincided with big changes to how the health service in the area was run (particularly at the hospital, which became a major issue, generating protests). If became difficult to get an appointment at CR - and the new system makes it difficult to get an appointment more than 3 weeks ahead, which is a pain when you need e.g. regular Vitamin B12 injections.

HOWEVER - the appointments now seem to be easier to get. I've just looked for an appointment on the app, and was offered one in just 45 minutes time, with the next one being early Monday morning.

Also, as Pauline has already said, CR has 24hr emergency cover although I've no experience of that myself.

Cheers

Steve
