Firstly forgive me if this is a daft question, my wife and I have sold our UK property and stay in Cabo Roig for 4 months soon, with the idea of property purchase, and permanent residence in Spain. Confused about health care, if The UK government agrees a deal with the EU, and we take up residence and pay tax in Spain, will we receive health care in Spain, therefore avoiding expensive private insurance, I am 63 my wife 55, we are both retired, and have paid maximum national insurance contributions in the UK.

Just confused, if we are permanent residences, can we get free health care, and NHS picks up cost.

Thanks in advance.

Brexit or no Brexit you will need Private Health Insurance as you are both below State Pension Age. I would recommend that you speak to Alfonso at Gran Alacant Insurances, see their advertisement on the Forum or the link below, he will be able to guide you through all that is required.

Thanks so basically, my wife would need to meet private health insurance payments for next 10 years and myself 4 before we would qualify, for use of Spanish health care.

Appreciate your reply.

Just to add to what RayD said about tax residency,(after living in Spain over 183days) if you have sold your UK house in this year, taking up residency also this year would cause you to pay CGT on your UK house sale. Timing of residency is crucial.

Pauline.

Ray, what you are saying is at this point merely speculation based upon what might happen, nothing is definite yet. Both the U.K. and the E.U. have would forward their positions after Brexit or no Brexit as bargaining tools as part of the negotiations. No one can say  for definite what will apply after 29th March or any transition period, the widespread speculation has done nothing but create worry rather than prepare people for the changed circumstances.

Your response feature TWO very big "ifs", so in my view that is speculation.

Hi, I`ve been following these posts and would like to clarify my understanding of the issues when moving to Spain.

My wife, 59,  and I, 61, have a flat in Playa Flamenca and plan to retire there when funds allow. My understanding, as of today....pre- Brexit, is as follows:

  1. When I reach UK pension age I, via an S1 form from DWP,  would be eligible for free Spanish health care. My wife can also apply for Spanish free health care on the back of my S1 as a dependant or on her own S1 if she reaches UK pension age at the same time as me. I assume it would work the other way if she reached UK pension age first and I would be eligible on the back of her S1.
  2.  If we move to Spain before either of us reach UK pension age we would have to take out Private Health Care ,for the first year (I`ve seen PPL quote 1900 Euro a year (each ?)  for this but could do with some figures if possible to clarify) and thereafter we could enrol in Spanish Health System for 60 Euro per month( I assume each?).
  3. Once we have moved to Spain and become residents with either PHC or on the free Spanish Health Care System we give up the right to UK health system and can only use with the equivalent of the E111, if needed, whenever back in the UK.
  4. Regarding "salario minim interprofessional": Latest figure is 900 Euro/month (each?)  income.  This must be proven via UK bank or Spanish bank dependant on local Spanish authorities. I have also seen, on another post, a reference to a minimum amount of savings to prove not to be a "burden" on the Spanish economy. Can anyone clarify if this is correct and what the amount is?
Obviously moving to Spain is not as easy as we first thought! Many thanks in anticipation of a response to clarify the above,

Kim, do we still need to prove an income, each, of 900 € per per month and possibly savings over and above this?
