Good afternoon from achill Ireland.just wondering if it is safe for us not to be there in Spain when the house has to be signed for????our solicitor said she can do it all for us anyone done this.many thanks.

Yes...give power of attorney to your lawyer...if they're worth their salt they will do everything, ours sorted all our direct debits to the appropriate companies, soooo easy

Just Make sure your solicitor is well recommended and trustworthy they should all be! but it has been known in the past for unscurupulus ones to take a mortgage against the property and you would then be stuck with it! and responsible this would not normaly happen but power of attorney means they can actualy do anything, I am not saying don't do it but be carefull.

Linda....I can personally vouch for our lawyer if you want details let me know. Such an incredibly fair and knowledgeable lady with a string of accreditation, goes over and above her requirements.

If your attorney has power of attorney from you then it should not be a problem. In Spain it's often the lawyer who does all the transactions and as long as they know what they're doing all should be OK
