I’m in the area till March before heading home to France. I would love to find a high quality  local olive oil producer. Can anyone suggest someone .

Thank you

From what I have found with a bit of research: 80% of olive oil is produced in Andalucía, and small amounts in some other regions. In the Valencia region, Utiel  produces olive oil, as well as some renowned wines. I have not heard of any producers of the type of which I imagine you may be thinking. Most olive growers sell their products to huge agricultural cooperatives ( there is one near us, with a very pleasant bar on its roof ), unless they are one of the enormous oil companies when they will undertake the whole process.

There are extremely high quality oils available in supermarkets, single estate etc etc. If you are in Moreira, there are two branches of Pepe La Sal, which is known for very high quality specialist times, or inCalpe there is Mi Mércat which is similar. But most chains of stores here sell oil at several price points.

Would totally recommend this olive oil that is produced from olives grown in the Mariola National Park. I bought it from the Cooperative in Cocentaina. When I’m back again in a couple of weeks definitely buying some bottles. I’ve had three different types that they they produce. A light, a heavier type akin to extra virgen and one with a subtle infusion of chilli. Every one has been very delicious.

Worth going to Cocentaina on market day (Thursdays) up to midday. Don’t park in the squares you’ll be towed. Plenty of other parking along the main avenidas.

If you want to visit the little castello that overlooks the town ask at the local police station who will lend you the key on sight of your passport. (Couldn’t see National Trust ever doing that) Great views from the top across the Val d’ Comtat.
