Hi, we are thinking of renting in Calpe to start our new life in Spain.

The house is up the hill near the Imperial park.

My question is... i drive so getting about for me won't be an issue but my hubby doesn't drive... I've seen there are buses near the hotel, are these year round so he can tootle off on his own.

Also, is their an expat community to meet other Brits etc.

Thanks in advance..  any other advice about the area etc would be very much appreciated.. here's hoping it all goes swimmingly!

HI the buses only run in the summer but parking is difficult in the summer as you may know. to get to know other brits then join the outfit know as the U3A which is very popular and they do all sorts of venues and coach trips to various places round and about. look for them online. hope this helps, cheers, Barry

Hi and hope all goes well with your move, maybe a good idea is to join the U3A over here, they have meetings in the Ifach Hotel about once  or twice a month and then you can join, they have lots of activities going on and also some great trips out, here is the link: http://u3acalpe.org hope this helps :)

Hi - thank you for your replies.

As my hubby doesn't drive we decided Calpe wasn't the place for us and are off to place near Cartagena.  It's flatter, has regular buses all year so suits us better we think... fingers crossed!!.

There is a public bus L3 running from Calpe going up through Casanova/ Calpe Park to the top of the road where the roundabout is. There's a small garden centre ,usually has a stock pile of wood outside. The  bus stop is just below the roundabout. It's not that far to walk from the direction of the Imperial hotel area. The bus does run during the Winter timetable stopping opposite the bus station, then the Reposol petrol station and another stop by the Salinas.  I know there's a bus at 9.55-10am from the Casanova area, next one l think is about 12noon,then 2pm,last one approximately 6.45pm. Hope this is helpful, although I'm sure that the bus won't be running while lockdown is on but hopefully will resume soon.
