If you want to go to a child free hotel or eat in a child free Restrauant area I do not see the harm in that?

It’s about choices ! Or being offered them at least?

I think the point of the question was originally if anybody had thoughts / experiences with transporting pets?

Did you ask your birds how was the journey that they “survived “on the flight? Point is that personally I would never leave any pets of mine with any airline... not saying it isn’t for some people  but it certainly isn’t for me!

I have even driven with my parrots safely across many countries in the past as well.... you do what you have to do being a pet owner eh?

Well Basil, so nice to meet another parrot lover.Actually the only bird that I could converse with was my African Grey who was always chatty in English &,later,in Spanish. She would have said in her Devonian accent since we lived there once,,no doubt to please YOU," Shiver(ed) me timbers".As you are aware most bird species are diurnal so would welcome being transported in a dim light.I have not had your experience at carrying my parrots across various countries & ,I am sure to help others,it would be invaluable to learn ,what species & the correct documentation needed since CITES regulations are stringent  & covers most bird species..Indeed when I bred my blue-fronted Amazons,a Vet. before signing the certificate that assured the offspring were ABCR(aviary bred close rung)had to visit at intervals to make sure there were eggs in the nest, they hatched & the young fledged.A tricky business since the hen will desert the nest if she feels disturbed.Fortunately my Spanish Vet.owned a B/G Macaw & was careful & the nestbox had a sliding shutter at the back where we could take a quick look.As more & more of us travel with our growing number of different kinds of pets we must all help to inform others & the way this is done successfully.

We would never let our dog fly again. She done one flight and was traumatized for weeks afterwards! Seeing her in a crate being put onto a pallet and forklift trucked off into a warehouse was horrendous! Whatever company you use this is what goes on behind the scenes trust me!

We travel by car all the time now and she can have regular walks and drinks n snacks etc....not even water allowed on flights! ...

...

Maybe if you can not drive it might be worth the two days for a dog/animal courier to fetch her over? At least she would get walked, fed watered etc and have human contact!

Not saying all dogs are  the same and maybe younger ones are better etc but personally would never do again and have been half way round the world and back with ours now...by road!

We like you have decided that we can't put our dog through the ordeal of flying .We wil be driving down and seeing a bit of France and Spain on the way down

Has anyone flown their dog from the uk to Spain? If so which airlines do this and what was the cost.

We are flying our Retriever over next month but have gone with Pets Abroad UK who have been very helpful. He is getting flown over with Thomsons and costs about £1250 coming from Glasgow to Alicante.

I used Pets on the Move who use Glasgow airport. I came over in July with my Boston Terrier to Alicante. I found them very helpful.

Hi, we flew out 2 elderly Cavaliers out to Alicante from Liverpool airport on 17th June with BlueAir, they were both fine, loaded after all the luggage, they were collected one hour before the flight took off and we saw them being loaded as we boarded the plane. At Alicante airport we collected o...

...ur luggage and went to the animal collection point which is at the back of the carousel area and waited about 10 minutes to collect them. Cost was £67 each. Would recommend BlueAir to anyone.

Hi Marian, This is GREAT News, because We always thought that We would have to use an Agency to do this. We Have been quoted over £1200 by an Agency. Is it all as Simple as it sounds ? How do we find out where to Take and collect our Dog ? because our Spanish is Very Basic to say the Least.  Regards..... Chris

Hi Chris, it was all very simple, we looked at the flight that we wanted, called the customer services to check that they had space for the dogs, they only have room for 3 animals per flight from Liverpool, then we booked our flights, when you get to the booking luggage part there is another section for booking animals, 1 per passenger. When we arrived at the airport we checked in with the dogs, and were given a time to get the dogs collected, which was not far from the check-in desk. We went there 1 hour before the flight took off, the dogs were taken out of their carriers so that the carriers could go through the scanning machine. The dogs were given a quick check to make sure there wasn't anything on them then put back in the carriers. They were being put into the hold as we were waiting to board the flight, after all the luggage had been put on. 2 cargo handlers put them on the conveyor belt, both dog lovers so we're talking to the dogs as they were being loaded. Everyone at the airport were brilliant saying they would take good care of the digs. Once we landed at Alicante and collected our luggage we went to the animal collection point, well signposted and in the same area as the luggage collection. We waited about 10 minutes, showed the paperwork to the people there (to prove we were their owners) and off we went. Didnt really need a lot of Spanish  and mine is only basic. Once outside the airport we took them out of the carriers, gave them a drink and a quick walk while we waited for our transport. I think we were more stressed than the dogs to be honest. They were both fine, a bit unsettled the first night due to strange surroundings, but absolutely fine since then. Hope this helps, if you need any further information please ask.

Hi Marian, Thank You for all the Info. When you say you just had to show all the Paperwork, just what Paperwork was that ? I Suppose it will be our Dogs Flight Ticket and His Pet Passport, but is there anything else ? All we have to do now is to find a way to get him back to the UK.  lol  .   Regards    Chris
