Get yourself some CCTV.  Its dirt cheap online.  I caught a racist abusive Spanish neighbour with mine.  Convicted... peaceful now...

Just make sure it only monitors your property and does not face or include the street or public spaces ..!!

And buy the best you can .

We have cameras, but where the snack van was parked is quite hidden and dark, so they must of sussed out where the cameras where and climbed over the high wall and kept out of view. We are going to reposition the cameras now to cover the walls

Yes we know thank you, we have no neighbours where they came in, and we will point the cameras straight down the walls. The police have been around and given advice

One has no problem with camera´s facing towards a public area. Private privacy issues yes.

regarding other post, Good  (around 50€) quality camera with  movement sensor (infra-red  incl), recording separate equipment is not required.

CCTV is not going to deter opportunists, if they cover their face with a mask then getting an i.d is virtually impossible.

It’s only effective if monitored, then any thieves can either be caught in the act or disturbed. For the more serious security conscious householder, CCTV recording on a HD recorder is another option but, as mentioned above, any intruder who covers his/her face will be difficult to identify after the event anyway?

All defenses, deterrents etc, etc, one acknowledges & accept. I´m happy in my local bar for example, knowing, that the cctv sends me a mobile alarm  message (from home), with photo of intruder/ friends/ cat or cat burglar or balaclavas. I´d rather know, who´s knocking about. I stress, it helps. Nothing is fail-safe. Nothing at all is worse.

Thanks for your advice, but this was not an opportunist. They came with tools, knew where the snack van was. It was definately targeted

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Some advice etc. But the cctv can be sensitive set, switched on & off& set for specific zone area, for 30 euros more than a dummy. V
