Can anybody advise on costs for installing a septic tank to make the property comply with EU regs?
Difficult question.
These days there are a number of possible solutions for modernising ancient non compliant waste systems but to determine which is most appropriate for your specific circumstances you need advice from a professional.

Go to Biotanks, just down the road from you next to the Los Molinos restaurant and talk to the Boss - he speaks English. You will need an architect to confirm the installation is in a suitable place (there are rules!) and do the paperwork including your habitation certificate, its a requirement of the Ayuntamiento. Plus you need the digger to install. Reckon on about 3,000 euros.
Just email me if you need further advice.

I forgot to add that you MUST have a contract with the Desatacos (unblockers) to satisfy the town hall.

Richard ...
You must have an old Non-EU regulated tank.
The New tanks do not need ANY contract with the unblockers. That is only if you have a "barrel" which you obviously have to empty every "month" (depending in how many times you go to the loo)
The New Tanks are oxigenated and therefore the crap is "burnt" away. Eventually ... depending on the size of tank, you have to "empty the sludge. But this is after 3 to 5 years of usage.
My point ... don't buy your tanks where Richard does.
Take care.

My tank is 2 years old and fully EU compliant. It is the basic 'deposito' which is the lowest cost. The multi chamber tanks cost 3 times as much as the basic one which, with all services, cost 3,000 euros. You get what you pay for.
To suggest that you should not use the company Biotanks if erroneous and misleading.
Dear Richard,
So ... you went for the cheap option, the so called "barrel" where you DO need to contract the "Unblockers" to empty that "barrel" every now and then ... which obviously in time will cost you more than if you had installed the "proper oxidation tank".
Make clear that those Biotanks you are suggesting not to use, have noting to do with Eco Bio Septic Tanks ecobioseptictanks.webs.com which I and several people in Catral and surrounding areas have used for their proper tanks.
Anyway ... as many know ... cheap is expensive.
All the best,
Trev.

Hello Trevor. You replied on this post from a few years ago. We are looking to buy in Hondon and need an eco tank to apply for a second occupation licence. Do you recommend Eco BioSeptic tanks. We want to make sure we get a tank which is fully compliant with regulations.

Hello
Nip along to the tank makers next to the Los Molinos restaurant and talk to Juan. He will advise on the latest price. Remember that you have to pay for a digger, half day, about 140 euros and the plastic pipework. Reckon on about 2000 euros for the lot.
