I am sick and tired of selfish cyclists in this area who will not use the available cycle paths, but insist on cycling on the roads, sometimes 3 or four abreast, and knowing the road is too narrow for drivers to overtake, especially on roads with solid lines, so no overtaking allowed!!! Even when one makes one's presence known to them they don't change their positions. This is  unbelievably inconsiderate!!!! If someone knocks you off your bike you would kick up a big fuss, but why should drivers have to creep along behind you until the solid line is gone? Get a life, here are very nice cycle lanes, where you would be safer and allow drivers a bit of freedom to drive.

This is something many people get frustrated about and there are faults on both sides.

There are rules in place, cyclists are classed as 'vulnerable road users' therefore the laws in place are to protect them,  cyclists are allowed to ride 2 abreast provided they keep as far to the right as possible and no vehicles are approaching from the other direction and visibility is good.

Current laws also allow drivers to cross a solid white line in the middle of the road to overtake cyclists at a safe distance, provided no vehicles are approaching from the other direction and visibility is good. The new amendment to Spain’s traffic regulations means that drivers must also slow down to below 20kph the speed limit  to make a pass & suggests that drivers should give cyclists at 1.5 metre space if driving under 30kph and more than two metres if going above that speed.

Given these protections cyclist are expected to follow the rules of the road, including traffic lights, wearing a helmet, carrying photo ID and group riding protocols. (Max 2 abreast)

I am sure this doesn't answer all of you complaints but explains the current laws. Nothing is perfect but hopefully relives a few frustrations and keeps everyone safe.

I am a cyclist and a driver and I agree that some cyclist are selfish in their approach to riding but even with the laws of 1.5 mt etc in place I have had selfish drivers (quite often using their mobile phones) cutting me up on roundabouts etc so there are issues with both parties.

Unfortunately there are many members of society that think it is there right to do as they please whenever they please.

Hello

As a pedestrian, my pet hate is cyclists, selfishly, riding on  pavements especially as the roads have got busier recently - where am I supposed to go to avoid them?

|Also , when you choose to cycle along the boardwalk into & out of La Mata remember........ the walkers ,joggers, people with kids/buggies/dogs etc ...In these busy months,-it  really is not ideal is it?

Cheers

Cyclist should not be riding on pavements, all my riding is done on the road as it should be.

Today on my ride I had 6 close passes by drivers ie within 1mt this on good wide roads with lots of passing room, 3 drivers approaching on side roads too quickly and not concentrating so stopping at the last second and one idiot came passed me then immediately pulled up to turn right, so it is basically selfish ignorant people that are the problem, this unfortunately seems to be the way of society these days.

The electric scooter riders are to me the most perilous road users, no helmets, no insurance and mostly no road sense IME.

You are absolutely correct, only last week I had to slow down for a bunch of cyclists and my journey to Pilar took a life changing extra 10 seconds.

The other week I saw one run over a spider crossing the road, what use to the world is that when us car drivers can maim cats and dogs and even larger animals that are straying on to our roads.

Only last week a car managed to plough into bar terrace and hospitalise over 20 people enjoying a night out, there is no way a cyclist could manage that type of mayhem

They should all be made to buy cars and then they can go out and pollute the atmosphere so it would then make walking the streets so unpleasant that it would remove all those pesky pedestrians that are always slowing us down at crossings that are far too common in our towns and cities.

Yes at "pedestrian" crossings where cyclists think they don't have to stop!! I've had a few close calls with cyclists who think the law doesn't apply to them!!!

And of course you have never had a close call with a motorist who thinks the law does not apply to them.

And of course every motorist is fully law abiding and all those caught speeding by the cameras are wrongly penalised due to faulty equipment.

And of course you have never seen a car exceeding the 20kph speed limit through the village.

You clearly don’t believe that thousands are killed in car crashes every year, you probably think a cyclist caused them all.

For the record I am an avid cyclist out at least three times a week as well as driving around 30,000 miles a year through work.

Try and calm yourself John. You are wildly accusing me of of sorts of things. Yes I've had issues with cars on pedestrian crossings but 99 out of 100 cars stop whereas only 1 in 100 cyclists stop.

Me and my spanish mate were discussing this and his exact words to me were, "on spanish roads no one is safe" hes a car and motobike and pushbike rider. Obviously he was making light of the conversation but he was being serious. But tbf the way he sees it (hes not the only one) this is spain and nothing is going to change anytime soon so just get on with it.
