Couldn't agree with you more as I volunteer at an animal shelter and see these poor cats and dogs who all they want is a warm and loving home....for life!
What are the Adoption fees for dogs please ?

Hi,
To be honest I don't think there are adoption fees I think they ask if you'd like to make a donation. Don't take this as said, your best bet is to go to the shelter and talk to someone in charge as I'm just a volunteer there. Fernando is the main man to talk to.
You could also have a look on their Facebook page for info. Concejalía de Proteccíon animal Torrevieja.
Good luck and hope you do adopt an abandoned animal:)

We adopted our Eddie Edible Edelicious from SATS in Dolores and, like Peter, we used to volunteer for walking the woofs. There are so many gorgeous animals just waiting for their forever homes, it's beyond me why anyone would pay through the nose for a "pedigree" which probably isn't worth the paper it's written on.
We donated €50 initially, but when we went to collect Eddie, he'd had all his vaccinations, been given the 'snip', tested for Leishmaniasis (negative), was microchipped and had his pet passport, so we donated another €100. He was a 1 year old, Spanish 'Campo' dog, Heinz Beans 57 varieties - he's super-smart, chilled, affectionate and very sensitive to two of my girlfriends who are frightened of dogs. Volunteering to walk the woofs is a great way of getting to know their characters when you're looking for one to adopt👍
Enjoy! 🐶

Hi Kimmy,
What a fabulous funny name....bet you dont shout it every time you call him, lol!
Like you I can't understand why people want a specific dog but everyone to their own I suppose. Just so many dodgy breeding places around giving the good ones a bad name even if I don't agree with it.
As you say they bring so much joy whether it be a dog or cat and it's so nice to see the great changes in them once they settle in.
May you have many more happy years with him :)

And well done to you, It was a good 10 years ago I used to help walk the SATs dogs, on my Torrevieja winter break. Love your post.

Noticed the same thing. Every week Costa Blanca News has photographs of abandoned animals all looking for adoption. They’ve all been inoculated and chipped, ready to go. There’s a list of all the rescue centres so it’s easy to find something local. It’s one of the first pages I turn to on a Friday when I get my paper and the trouble is I always want to adopt the lot!

I would love to volunteer in the last month of my stay here. I’m in Santa Pola and don’t drive.
Any suggestion please 🐶
