I think all you peoples that have written helpful comments Like "dickhead" and get your english sorted etc, should realise that the original post seems to have  been written by a person whose first language is Not English, and therefore someone who is doing much better and trying harder than most of the Mono lingual UK Native morons who presume to much, but criticise fluently¬¬

Although from Northern Ireland I consider myself Irish but will be affected by Brexit just the same as the many British friends I have made in Spain. Even prior to Brexit I was shocked at expats' treatment by Westminster, particularly in relation to their pension entitlement which is not index linked. To me this is highly unjust as recipients paid their taxes and NI contributions the same as everyone else and the fact that these expats are helping ease the demands of an increasing aged population on the NHS seems to have been missed by the mandarins in Whitehall. Coupled with the possible loss of the EHIC card, things are not looking good and, as anyone in their 60's or 70's who has enquired will know, getting affordable Private Health Insurance is impossible. When you factor in the drop in Sterling against the Euro, this equates to a drop of income of around 30% in real terms over the past decade and don't even mention the winter fuel payment which, for those who live permanently in Spain know, is just as necessary in Spain as it is in Devon or Cornwall. Ex-pats are at the added disadvantage that they have no MP to complain to and the lack of understanding from those 'back home' is typically manifested with advice to sell up and return to the U.K. For anyone who has costed selling up in Spain against buying a property in the U.K. will know, this is simply not feasible.

It's at times like this that those ex-pats who made an effort to integrate into the Spanish community will, no doubt, fare better. I am still amazed, not withstanding the old adage you can't teach old dogs new tricks, at the number of ex-pats of over ten years standing who still have virtually no grasp of the Spanish language. For my part, I have an Irish passport and, on my last visit home, registered at a social security office in the Irish Republic and have applied for an Irish EHIC card. I've also no doubt that there are British ex-pats who, through their ancestry, would be entitled to an Irish passport. There are three ex-pats I know who have successfully received their Irish passports so maybe its something worth investigating? Other than that, there is nothing more to be done but batten down the hatches in preparation for Hurricane Brexit and hoping that the resultant damage to the ex-pat community in Spain is not as bad as feared.

To what? If Brexit ends in deadlock then the U.K. will be the last place anyone would want to be. The adage out of the frying pan and into the fire comes to mind.

first la marina now called the ghost town ,they bought there houses for 200 to 240 ooo euroes now cannot get half of this.some are trying to hang on but if the husband dies the wife will not afford to stay, what wll happen to iceland.

what will happen to Catral. Qusader other british towns

Germany has said in 2019 Europe will Collapse,Britain has Billions in the European Banks if they take it out,and America Stops Trading it will finish Europe,

what about Spain then

Britain has now found Great Deposits of Oil and Gas in there North Sea ,and Even more in Land ,Making Britain the Riches Country in Europe,

will Spain like France wants to Keep in with Britain Hoping to get some of the Oil and Gas..,

JUST LOOK THIS UP

just think if Europe does Collapse where will Spain be then .who could they trade with ,possible Britain and America,

should they not start looking after the British in Spain.

Dont know why everyone is guessing what will or will not happen. If we come out of the EU we will just have to get on with it and work hard and together to sort it out. Cabinet ministers and businesses are scaremongering the public. How did we manage before we went in. I have been coming to Spain for 61years and will keep on adding my bit to the economy. I have property here. So have an interest in what happens in Europe. Think positively and stop making it worse.

I have just come across this thread some two and a half years after the last post, which was also pre Covid.

So, has anything really changed? Lots of Brits have stayed and are now legally resident. The property market hasn't crashed, and sales haven't dropped signficantly.

Sure, some Brits have returned to the UK mainly BY CHOICE. Applying for residency before 31.12.2020 was fairly straight forward, income required meant a UK pension was sufficient enough to qualify.

Be much more difficult to move here now that the UK is a third party country, and the income requirement is far higher.

This was the reason I retired four years earlier than I planned to move here, as there was no way my income in 2024 would satisfy the minimum required.

It just took planning, and not a crystal ball.

The Idiots that voted brexit have caused a right mess. Many that voted out were living in Spain and now regret what they have done. Even here most regret what they have done. Glad I did not purchase in Spain 5 years ago now. They will not get my hard earned cash now.

Wait until Boris has to find the money to balance all that he wasted/gave to his mates for a flawed Track and Trace, PPE that never existed or was no good for purpose. The only way he can get it is by raising taxes, directly or indirectly. And that's not even taking Brexit into account

Boris may have allowed shops and pubs to open, but from all I saw on UK news was hoards of people queueing outside these places without wearing masks or socially distancing.

Makes it look Covid had been eradicated in the UK, and I would not be surprised to see another spike in numbers. I'm not a doctor or a healthcare worker, but I am aware how it spreads. Standing shoulder to shoulder with people you have never seen before is not sensible. Brexit or no brexit.

I am neither an idiot, nor regret voting how I did.
