Hi,

The latest update (dated 29 December 2021) regarding driving licence exchange for UK citizens, resident in Spain, is here:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/living-in-spain#driving-in-spain

The advice from the British Embassy is that, if being able to drive in Spain is essential for you, you should arrange to take a Spanish driving test before 28 February this year.

Kind regards,

Kim

I enquired about test, €350 for  theory test and 1st driving test could be August with all the backlog.

So I will sell my car and bike and walk.

It will be interesting to see how many older people pass a driving test.

For some, cycling and walking won't be an option, and I appreciate that the cost could be prohibitive for some.  For others, perhaps it's "fear of the unknown"?  But Third Country Nationals have had to go through this process for decades and other than for those who speak Spanish, English is likely to be the most common second language that driving schools deal with, even though the test will be in Spanish.  Yet, despite specific advice from the British Embassy, the most frequently asked question on this subject is, "When will there be an agreement?", rather than, "How do we take a Spanish driving test?"  Are people really that happy to stop driving if agreement isn't reached?  Surely it makes sense to prepare to take the Spanish test, even if ultimately it becomes unnecessary? 🤔

Bottom line: unfortunately, none of us has a crystal ball 😞

Kind regards,

Kim
