What I meant was that if you've submitted a tax return showing an income below €18,000, that will in due course filter through the system and you'll get your prescriptions free. You don't need to submit a return in subsequent years.

Hi Jill,
It is only pensioners in the Valencia region that can get free medicines, so you should still have to pay 10%. I am in Playa Flamenca, my SIP card is white and blue-green. It clearly shows a SIP number, D.N.I (which is the NIE number), and carries a bar code. When you go to the pharmacia, you need to show this card and of course your prescription. There is a bar code on the prescription, and it also states if and what you have to pay. Sometimes a doctor will prescribe a medicine that is not covered by the state system, so you have to pay full price. (Just like in the UK if N.I,C.E. don't approve it). Obviously as you live in Murcia, things could be slightly different. Incidentally my SIP card is a plastic card that does not have an expiry date on. I hope this helps you a little.
