Thanks for that information.  My son has checked all that.  He actually went to Iberdrola office and had no luck, with them, they said everything was ok.  So my son said to the woman in their office so do you have bills,of 163 euro when no one is living there.  All she could of...

Absolutely disgusted with the whole affair, so puts you off owning a place in Spain.

This is exactly the same in the UK. My son moved out of a flat 12 months ago with a credit balance. Suddenly after moving he had a bill for £177. After 12 months and investigation by the ombudsman he ended up with a bill for £24 and a compensation from EON of £100 for the diabolical customer service.

Hi Jean,

Whats a Potencia please.  Our son came home today and won’t be going out there until end June, but I can pass this on to him , do you think he’ll be able to change it from England?

Probably explained already but here's my version:

In the UK, you have leccy to your property. You use a little or a lot. It doesn't matter. You pay for whatever you use. Simple!

Here, predictably, things aren't so straightforward. You have to anticipate what you might use in order to have the right tariff! The leccy company then puts you on a suitable tariff for that usage.

The problem is if you use more than your tariff permits (air con, tumble drier and electric oven all on at the same time, therefore a large current draw), your mains will trip off. Not really convenient in a modern world!

Options are to increase your tariff (higher charge) or be careful what appliances are running simultaneously!

It's Spain......

Darcra. I would recommed you and your son change to a different company . I used this company: [email protected] to change.  I sent in my bills to them  ( I am only hoildays and used to be with Iberdrola) and they put me with a company called Holaluz. My bill for April when no -one was there was 15.37€ which was just standing charges. My Potencia is 5.75KW. Which means if you draw more power than that the supply will trip out and I'll need to turn something off. More of an issue in the winter if I have the water heater, oven,TV and radiator on. In the summer never a problem. This is what bill breakdown looks like: Scroll down to see the entire breakdown.

ConceptoBasePrecio unitarioImporte Potencia [P1] 5,75 kW 0,071682 €/kW y día 12,37 € Potencia [P2] 5,75 kW 0,003132 €/kW y día 0,54 € Energía [P1] 0 kWh 0,379589 €/kWh 0,00 € Energía [P2] 0 kWh 0,316539 €/kWh 0,00 € Energía [P3] 0 kWh 0,263178 €/kWh 0,00 € Bono social abril

0,30 € Impuesto Eléctrico Reducido 13,21 € 0,500 % 0,07 € Alquiler de contador

0,80 € Otros costes Ir al desglose de otros costes -0,11 € IVA reducido 13,97 € 10,00 % 1,40 € TOTAL

15,37 €The Energia P1, P2, P3 are the prices I pay per Kwh . They are for different times of the day and night. Midnight to 8am is the cheapest as you can see that is P3. Of course there is IVA on each price at the end of the bill.

There must be someone using the electricity in your apartment. The fact that there is 3 different amounts means electricity has been used. I'm afraid you cannot trust everyone, especially if they have access to the property.

Change to a different supplier its the best thing to do.

Sorry but for some reason the forum system changed the lay out of the bill above. Hope you can see what I mean.

Hi. Currently own a property in Spain electricity provided by iberdrola. Not sure if we have a smart meter or not. We pay a small standing charge unless we are there.

Before owning the property it was my parents. A few years back they saw that their electricity and water bills sometimes were high. On investigaton IT was the neighbour they trusted with the keys. He rented it out when they where not there.

Suggest: before leaving the property and on returning to the property take a meter reading each time. It should be the same. If it's different then something or someone is drawing the electricity.

Check to see if your waterbills also increased during the same period if you can. that will be a sign that someone is using it.

Set up your account access to both your electricity  and water providers website they normally provide analytics of usage.

Lastly don't trust anyone!

Hope the above helps going forward.

HELP

Or try these people! I've been with them for 3 years. Saved me a packet!

Hi

Im in UK , my bill for last month was 19.15 euros, so how canitbe so much for yours

My best friend is in the U.K. and been since March this year, they have a pay as you go meter and were telling me last night on messenger that there electric consumption has gone up.After checking their usage they are now using around £1,18 per day in electric, they are also telling me that their gas is half per day than their electric,so I can’t understand why it’s so much more here.

I have an apartment in Guardamar. When I purchased the flat, I was put on a potential of 5.6 KW.   The standing charge every month is a multiple of the potential and the days in the month. Even when all was switched off when I was in England, my bill was never less than 30 euros a month.  Once I understood how the standing charge was calculated, I lowered the potencia. to 3 Kw, i recall, it cost me 10 euros. My plan was to see if I could live with it that low without the mains tripping out all the time. If that was going to be the case, I was prepared to up it to 3.5kw. In the event we have only had 2 outages  in 2 years.

The really good news is my standing charge is under 15 euros.  I had considered reducing it down to 1 kw for the period i was in the UK as i dont really wish to pay for it whilst not using it.

Get the app, it is really easy to change the level

I’m with Holaluz,100% green energy.I have the potencia at 3.2 which is fine 99% of the time but if it trips its a 2 second job to reset. Also using the app I can change the  potencia or anything else to do with electric supply without cost and view daily usage in Euros and kWh.After 12 months I can recommend them.
