Property Upgrades

HI There,

We are finalizing a property we are purchasing just outside Denia and I wanted to see if anyone had advice on energy upgrades etc.

The property appears to be solid stone or block (external walls are approx 350mm wide inc render). It appears to be a raised foundation, but there is no access under the floor. I had a look in the roof and its a concrete ceiling, with then what looks like concrete rafters supporting tiles.

I know it will be hot in the summer and cool in the winter so want to upgrade the insulation.

In the UK the roof is an obvious choice to insulate, but here access is poor and even then I am not sure what benefit it would be with the concrete ceiling.

For the walls I would prefer to do external insulation, as i dont want to lose space, but I am worried that might need a permit (its on rustic land) and i also dont know how to access under the ground floors.

Also, has anyone installed PV panels in the garden, do you need a permit?

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Paul,

An interesting project. If it were me I would be considering the possibility/viability of of adding an extendion, perhaps a uPVC conservatory or Orangery on a south or west facing wall. The format has worked well for me a couple of times.
