Hola

We have lived in Dolores (postcode 03150) for 3 years.  We initially came because we found a suitable long term rental but decided to buy here as we like it so much.  Unusually we bought a single storey traditional village house as we needed all one level with wheelchair access, we had the house totally reformed inside and redecorated externally and have been pleased with the work done by Reycon.  There is a quite small british contingent, mostly evident on market day, Friday mornings.  There is one british bar/cafe in the square opposite the ayuntamiento building, there is a british unisex hairdresser just off the square.  We live close to the centre of town but were very lucky last September 2019 as we had no flood damage at all, the campo areas were worst affected.  We were in England during the floods so were expecting the worst; there had been an exhibition of photographs just a few weeks before the flood to mark the last time the area was flooded 32 years previously.  We find it a pleasant little town with a mostly spanish and a good sized representation of north african families.  There are several bar/cafes and the prices here are a lot cheaper than Torrevieja or Guardamar and mostly cheaper even than almoradi or catral.  We have two good sized supermarkets, a fairly upmarket butcher shop near the fountain, two farmacias, a health centre with 24 hour emergency cover.  The beautiful catholic church dominates the pretty square.  This year we have missed the parades and fiestas due to covid-19 but other years they have been a lot of fun.  Clothes shops are thin on the ground unless you are a teen or early twenties or happy to buy in the market.  As a londoner I would not call it 'bustling' by any stretch of the imagination.  There were plans a few years back to expand Dolores exponentially with a golf urbanisation but little has become of those plans and the little model has been removed from the foyer of the ayuntamiento.  My biggest concern is that so many businesses are closing and nothing reopening in their place.

If you are going to come to look around send me a private message and come for a cuppa if you wish.

Hi, just read your story and found it very interesting.

Did you ever move to Spain. If so, where did you choose?
