Hi all

We have just moved to El  Campello and need to open a bank account for paying bills ect. We would like to speak in English as our Spanish is very basic at the moment. We would be very grateful for any updated information from personal experience.     Kind regards

Gez

Hi Gez

Stay clear of Spanish banks, they'll charge you an arm and a leg.

Many people on this forum use Wise.com, including myself. Very easy to use and the best exchange rate and minimal fees. It's well worth getting the debit card as well.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve.

I thought you had to have a Spanish bank account to pay bills. I will look into Wise.

Thanks for info.

Best wishes

Some people or companies will claim that you need a Spanish bank account.

That is absolutely not true. Do not listen to them, do not be tricked.

Wise is a good solution and supports Direct Debit for Iberdrola, Hidraqua and the Suma office.

However, Banco Sabadell on San Bartolomè are very helpful and have English speaking staff. The only charge we pay is €35 a quarter to maintain the account. Expensive by British banking standards, I know, but we're happy to actually have a Spanish bank account.

Actually I think it’s 40 each - ie €80 a quarter . Seems a lot to me as we only go to Spain to holiday. We have a property but rarely go!
