Does anyone know the official position of the 'car park attendants' at the open parking area on the sea front at the harbour end of Campello promenade. I find it intimidating to be approached by a less than official looking attendant holding his hand out, presumably for money, while supposedly directing you to a space in an otherwise empty car park.

Hi

I’m same as you we parked there New Year’s Eve .

Everywhere was rammed with cars so we ended up using that car park you  related  too

There were two men one proceeded to assist us with parking although I didn’t need it .

If I’m honest he appeared drunk.

I asked the other guy if parking was free and he said some people choose to pay us and some don’t ? So we were no were no wiser

Kind regards

Andy

Quite right. Pay or park elsewhere, or it's already dented ( you don't care) V

The parking on that car park is free. Don't pay the attendants. They are there to assist in  parking when the car park is full but I just ignore them and park where I want. It does get very busy on that car park.

Its not a scam but maybe they are just trying their luck and some may pay them. They are paid to be there.

Please. Park elswhere. It is not a "scam"!. Either give them a euro, park elsewhere or buy some "T-cut". V

Hi Villas. I park there every day. Never paid and never had any damage caused on that car park. I find this one quite accessible for my car as its a land rover so parking in El Campello streets can be quite a challenge.

I'm actually posting from experience, first hand knowledge and living in El Campello.

I agree. I am not disagreeing. In 20 years ( & in Valencia) not as above, I only once suffered damage. After,I just felt safer parking away, without being directed by a hand holding out his hand telling me that he would "look after my car".

PS: As the old 4x4 got older, I didn´t even notice.

We only bought our holiday home a few years ago, and I noticed these guys giving instructions last year...it was a Spanish person who waved at me not to give them anything etc.. I've never had any problems with cars being damaged - for most of last year I was using rental cars!!

In the peak season July/August/September the empty space on the other side of the main road is used as an extra car park and there you definitely have to pay and they give you a ticket...but from my experience the carpark at the port is free.
