Our stairs are quite pale and actually difficult to see if the lights aren't on thinking of trying to get some stair runners so that they are more visible/less dangerous.. Anyone know if there's anywhere in the Alicante that sells them - and that won't cost a fortune!  Not too sure we'd need thick heavy winter ones here! thanks for any advice!

What may possibly be another solution is to put some lighting  on the wall beside the stairs. The very small led lights which come in strips. I am not certain about the control systems, except that Ido know that there are types which are light sensitive so will come on in the dark, or battery operated.

...y operated.

Thanks Stephanie86 - our stairs go up 4 floors - there's lights on each of the stairs and we've even put a rug at the groundfloor landing as it's so easy to miss the last step... Just doesn't augur well when we get a bit older!  It's as much about the fact that the stairs are pale 'marble' (though I doubt it's marble!) so whilst it's all very bright/light it's not that obvious (we've both missed the last step hence the rug at the ground floor level) just not too sure I could invite my 80 year old parents over!  Thanks for the hint I'll have a look and see if there's any type of led lights which we could put somewhere along the way!!  'Traditional' English/Irish stair runners would probably be a bit too warm/heavy for houses here.. I did find a Spanish company online at Crevillante but I dread to think how much they would cost there! thanks!

The reason I suggest these is that I have seen them used on stairs. The obvious place to look is Leroy Merlín.

You can get motion sensor stair lights which look great and will do the job. Try Amazon.
