Disabled friend needs to return to UK
Hi. I'm asking on behalf of my disabled friend. She is a pensioner and has lived in Spain for 17 years. She is now disabled and living alone. She needs to return to the UK to be near family that can help, but as she has lived here for so long, she's out of the benefits system in the UK and I've been told she will need to wait for 6 months after returning to the UK to be entitled to any benefits. She receives a small UK pension, but has no savings or money to pay a chunk of rent up front if she returns to the UK. I've tried to call Citizens advice in Spain but I can't get through - it's permanently engaged. So, my question is, is there a way around this, because she's stuck in Spain, with no family to help & she can't return to the UK with nowhere to live and no financial means to support herself unless she can get back into the benefits system straight away.
