Don't do it, the paperwork will drive you mad (no pun intended) and the post Brexit import taxes will make it very expensive.

Hi Tony,I would sell my car in the U.K. and buy a left hand drive car before you get here or when you arrive. As has already been quoted it’s a nightmare trying to over take in a right hand drive and Spanish car don’t rust as much as the English ones. There’s a firm out here called Spanish Number Plates, avoid this company as if it was the plague, they say they will legalise your vehicle but at a price you wouldn’t believe,if you buy here the company you buy from will legalise for you.Hope this is useful.

Thanks for your input. I drove over to Dénia from Santander and back last October and was quite comfortable with the overtaking. In and around Denia Denia wasn't a problem either due to low density traffic.

Perhaps coming from a heavily congested area as I do in Manchester colours my opinion.

Was interested in your comments on the company you mentioned......is this the same as Leigh Spanish number plates as this came highly recommended from another source?

Again thank you for your interest.

Tony

You cannot drive a Spanish or other registered car in the UK so you would have to have it transported to the ferry/train. Also, according to one forum member's experience, although the UK dealer promised them all the paperwork was pukka, it wasn't ,which meant they ended up driving a car illegally and then had to take it off the road as there were debts attached to it and it had been embargoed.
As for Spanish number plates, after 5 years on this forum this is the first negative comment about them I have ever seen. He is the expert.
Get quotes from him and then make up your mind how you want to proceed.

Tony

The company you mentioned is the same.A friend of mine used this guy to register his car and the price went up and up,every time he crossed one barrier there was another which was more money,my friend pulled out in the end. This guy gives his address but it’s a garage, and he told my friend he works from home, beware of English in Spain ripping people off.

This is totally against my own experience and that of many other forum members. He bases himself at the ITV station at Redovan, as per the address on his website, and may well work from home when he is not there, many people do!
Would you mind telling us if your friend went to another advisor to transfer his car to Spanish plates and how much cheaper and easier it was?

You have to be very careful about publicly shaming businesses especially if you are just passing on second hand information.

I couldn't agree with you more. I'm getting so much contradictory advice but going along with yours.....trying to keep positive. On another matter I had bad news today regarding health care. As an older person I had to take out very expensive health care insurance in order to satisfy the Spanish authorities in order to get my non-lucrative visa. Now lawyers in Barcelona tell me that to renew this resident visa in a year's time I will have to keep private medical insurance in place, despite having gained Spanish State care under the reciprocal agreement between Spain and the UK using form S1. If you could throw any light on this I would be more than grateful as I'm so close to giving up altogether....and I'm far from being a quitter!!!

I believe this information from your solicitor is incorrect.

This article just seems to confirm that confusion reigns!

I believe he went to a company called Costa Cars,he had a guy that went to the Trafico office I think in Alicante and paid around €450.For a while he had Green Plates while he was waiting for his registration to come.
