Hi all,

Given this current hot topic on the forum, I thought some of you may be interested in signing a petition set up by Costaluz Lawyers, asking the Spanish Government to introduce a new visa for non-EU property owners:

https://www.change.org/p/costaluz-lawyers-a-homeowners-visa-for-spain?recruiter=1233001585&recruited_by_id=de893b00-40b0-11ec-8674-5fd9628e05bd&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=petition_dashboard

Kind regards,

Kim

Kim, thanks for the link, sure many will appreciate it, the site shows 5125 signatures and there must be quite a few CBF users that will signup.

This has been on the go since Nov 2021 yet has only managed to garner just 7500 signatures from ALL non EU citizens, not the most compelling of arguments. It's also based on a false premise as monthly income is not a factor and and never was
Sorry but the bare fact is that if Spain was going to do this they would have done it by now and a I don't see this or any petition changing their mind.
Hopeless as it is, and despite being a non affected party, because I know people who are I've signed it anyway!

Correct.  There are 47 million residents in Spain with in seems most interest coming from estate agents

Yes, it's unfortunate for both those second home owners in France and the French businesses that would have benifited that the simplified visa process was rejected. The original senator who proposed the bill in France is planning on submitting a modified bill, read the article found on the attached link.

. No guarantees that Spain will follow suit though.

Good Afternoon, Our english neighbours are looking at this issue quite closely, and they found this info on the Kyero Portal about 7 days ago and asked me to highlight it to Brits on this forum.

Spanish Government to persevere with challenging the 90/180 day residency rule.

The Spanish Government will continue to lobby the European Union to overturn the 90 day limit on British holiday home owners looking to stay in the country, a law that was implemented after Brexit. This comes after a decision by a French court rejected the proposed amendment to the French immigration law, which would have allowed British homeowners in France to spend 180 days a year in two blocks of two months each, on the grounds of unconstitutionally. Unlike France, which sought to address the issue domestically, Spain is taking a diplomatic route, engaging in discussions with Brussels to effect change. If the changes are accepted by the EU, it would be an absolute game changer fro Brits looking to buy property in Spain. Hope this helps.

But the law wasn't "implemented after Brexit" was it?

By leaving the EU we defaulted automatically to being subject to 3rd Country legislation.

There's a subtle but very important difference. Look, it doesn't make any difference to me whether non resident property owners come and go as they please. The part that irritates me is the British exceptionalism on the part of some (note, some) owners. ("Look at the way we prop up you're failing banana republic economy etc, without us you'll go bust etc")

Spain has a fantastic deal from the EU and although they might make some representations to the EU on the matter they're not going to rock the gravy train (sorry for the mixed metaphors)

The only way I could see this working successfully is if the EU were to change the regulations for all non EU countries. Because if France or Spain say aye to the UK then it opens a massive can of worms.

I think 🙈
