I am trying to ask this question without sounding ungrateful.

My wife is in a wheelchair & we have a wheelchair access vehicle. We get several paople who offer to get my wife into our vehicle which is very kind of them to offer.  However, they do not know the safe way to get her into the vehicle. One tried to push her up the rampwith 1 wheel on the ramp & 1 wheel on the ground almost tipping her sideways! others try turning up the power unit to full & my wife does a wheelie up the ramp!

I appreciate their kind offer of help but they don't know how to do this operation safely which frightens my wife.

How do you tell these kind helpful people thanks for your helpful offer but no thanks without upsetting their feelings?

Definitely - a ‘thanks but we can manage’ works well, when said with a smile.

I usually find saying "That's very kind of you we've been doing this along time and can manage thanks for offering though" and smile.
