I need to get permission to drive my hubby to Vega Baga Hospital for his eye injection next week. He cannot miss this monthly treatment or he will loose his sight? Thanks

Hi Heather,

I've just messaged the lawyer, Denise Ulendorp, at Formentera town hall, asking your question.

My personal opinion is a trip to the police station shouldn't be necessary as, to obtain permission at the police station, you're going to use the same evidence, i.e. confirmation of your husband's hospital appointment, that you would have to show to the police if they stopped you at the roadside.

But best to get the official answer, so I'll get back to you as soon as I have a response.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Heather,

Just heard back from the Town Hall.  No, you do not need to obtain permission from the police (the Chief of Police has advised that the police station is closed during this period of 'lockdown').  In the event that you are challenged by the police when travelling, ensure you have available in the car the proof of your husband's hospital appointment.

However, Denise has strongly recommended that you contact Vega Baja hospital to reconfirm your husband's appointment, as her contact at the hospital has confirmed that currently they are only admitting medical emergencies.

Best wishes to you and your husband.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim. Thanks for all your help. Vega Baga  hospital contacted us to day to say that he must attend the appointment s the treatment is crucial and they have sent a text message in Spanish which we can show to the police if stopped. Thanks again Heather
