Yesterday I went shopping at Mercadona in Almoradi. As I finished loading my car, four young men appeared. They wanted to know where the hospital was?

I would guess they were Eastern Europeans and looking back, I can see the "red flags" now.

One of them picked my pocket and stole my credit card and they quickly emptied my bank account and overdraft.

It can happen anywhere to anyone.

Sorry to hear this and thank you for the warning.

Did you report this to the police?

I've just downloaded "AlertCops" app for my phone. Apparently you can report this sort of thing online.

I did not even think of reporting this to the police as the thieves would have stolen the money then thrown away the card, so zero chance of getting anything back, as money is money.

I would guess the thieves would next strike some distance away, to avoid the police.

Hi, so sorry to hear of your loss, but how do thieves manage to steal your money so quickly without a pin no.? Did you withdraw money beforehand at an atm there in which case you may have been watched for pin no? How do they get access to your bank? Police should have been informed they might be trying already to intercept the gang and you could on apprehending later recognise them and cut this awful crime out. Sorry again

Regards

Pauline

Thieves now use card readers and such to gain access to bank cards.

Not related but England is experiencing a plague of mobile phone thefts which give access to bank cards. Put your phone down for a moment or even hold it in your hand in public and it is gone.

I went to the police and told the officer about what had happened.

She said if I wanted to make a complaint, that would be with the Guardia Civil. They are very slow and parking in the area is bad as it is market day.

I settled for warning her about the thieves as I consider the card and money gone.

I presume you have informed the bank and cancelled the card? This can easily be done via your online banking as can requesting a replacement card.

Your pin code can't be read from your card, as it isn't on the card. They can use it on the internet af the security code is on the back og the card.

It is a French bank and at present they are somewhere between trying to ignore me and to weasel out of it.

I pay an extra monthly fee for protection from such things.

Several years ago when similar happened, I was told by my personal banker to go bank elsewhere. And another time, a crazy woman sabotaged my account details. Both still work for the bank.

So this is the second time this has happened to you, and after the way your bank has treated you, you still bank with them. And you said "I did not even think of reporting this to the police as the thieves would have stolen the money then thrown away the card, so zero chance of getting anything back, as money is money"

Something doesn't add up here!
