plants requiring very little water

We have recently bought an apartment in Gran Alacant and have a small strip of garden about 2 yards wide and half a yard long. I would like to plant some nice flowering plants in this to brighten things up a little but as we are only using the apartment for holidays at the moment, probably every 2 months, the problem will be getting enough water to the plants. Does anyone know of any plants other than cactus which will survive with very little water or very intermittent watering. Your suggestions would be appreciated.
